EASTER!!!!!

For Easter this year Jeff and I wanted to do something a little different. We were getting tired of our kids getting loads and loads of candy and we wanted to reign it in and keep it a bit more Christ centered. I don't know just how well we did but I do think it was better than past years. We celebrated the "commercialized" Easter on Saturday and then focused more on Christ and his Atonement and resurrection on Sunday.

The Easter bunny brought the kids each a book, pair of shoes, and a water bottle. Then we borrowed our neighbor's yard to have a small easter egg hunt. It was fun, the kids enjoyed it, and they weren't sugared out with tons and tons of candy. Poor Olivia wasn't feeling very good that day though.

They also got to decorate their eggs the night before. We did whole 94 cent "monster" egg decorating kit from walmart. It was lots of fun.

I wanted to try something really cool this year. I got the idea from good 'ol Martha Stewart's website. I hollowed out real eggs with a small hole in the bottom. Then I boiled them in vinager water to sanitize them. Let them dry and I colored them with dye and let them dry for a couple of days. I'm not quite as fancy as Martha is so I didn't get the dutch chocolate and melt it in a fancy double boiler and temper my chocolate. I just took some dipping chocolates and melted them in the microwave, let it cool a little bit, then took a sandwich bag with the tip cut off and poured both white and chocolate chocolate into the bag, and then piped the chocolate into the eggs. I set them in an egg crate and refriderated them. I also piped some into a jello egg mold and it also turned out pretty cool .

Each of the kids got one Easter morning and thought that it was "so cool". All in all it was a fun project but a lot of work.
