This week I tried fondant. I made some homemade with just a bag of marshmallows and powdered sugar. I think I cooked my marshmallows in this batch too long because my fondant was REALLY hard to roll out when I got to that stage. Anyway, it was a new experience and it turned out really cute. Not so sure if my family liked the fondant covered cake as well as the regular buttercream frosting cakes because they kept picking off the fondant.
I made this cake just 2 layers tall and crumb coated it with some chocolate frosting (yummy) and then covered it with the fondant. Here is the end result:
I colored part of it and did purple polkadots. I now know why most professionals wrap some ribbon around the bottom of their cakes. It is kind of hard to make it look smooth and tucked in.
It was fun and something new. I might try it again. We'll see. But it did taste yummy. :)
